THE ABSEIL ACCESS TEAM


Abseil Access Ltd pioneered the use of industrial rope access techniques in New Zealand, and is a leader in the rope access industry. We have 20 years’ experience in the industry, both in New Zealand and overseas.

Abseil Access Ltd helped establish the New Zealand Industrial Rope Access Standard (AS/NZS 4488) and are founder members of the Industrial Rope Access Association of New Zealand (IRAANZ), the national body for rope access operators. We have also worked with Occupational Health and Safety to produce their Guidelines for Prevention of Falls publication.

Abseil Access Ltd has a head office, workshop and store in central Wellington. The South Island is serviced by a 4WD mobile team, with equipment stores in Queenstown, Westport and Christchurch.

We have a commitment to continuous upskilling for our staff, including NZQA Rope Access levels 1 and 2, Confined Space Training, Permit to Work, Hazard ID, First Aid and Explosives training.

Abseil Access Ltd are dealers for Petzl Industrial, the world's leading brand of height safety equipment.

The Abseil Access team of rope access specialists is made up of six full-time staff, plus many specially-trained on-call personnel.

The company’s managing directors are DJ Matheson and Martin Wilson. Together they formed Abseil Access Ltd in 1992.

DJ Matheson has 20 years’ experience in the Rope Access Industry and has been on the New Zealand standards committee since 1994. He is a past-president of IRAANZ and has qualifications in explosives and UT inspection.

Martin Wilson is a Professional Engineer and CBIP Certified Coatings Inspector.

Darren Rangitihi is our Operations Manager based in Wellington, dealing with the company’s general operations and specialising in installation and re-certification of horizontal safety lines and height safety bolts.

Cherie Capper is our office administrator.
